 മലയാളത്തിലെ  നെല്ലി  എന്ന പദത്തിൽ നിന്നാണ് തിരുനെല്ലി എന്ന സ്ഥലപ്പേരിന്റെ ഉദ്ഭവം എന്നാണു പറയപ്പെടുന്നത്‌ . നെല്ലി എന്നാൽ എന്തെന്ന് നമുക്കൊക്കെ അറിയാവുന്ന കാര്യമാണല്ലോ ?ഒരിക്കൽ ബ്രഹ്മാവ്‌ ലോകമാകെ ചുറ്റി സഞ്ചരിക്കുന്നതിനിടയിൽ , ഒരു വൃക്ഷച്ചുവട്ടിൽ ഭഗവാൻ ശ്രീ വിഷ്ണുവിന്റെ ഒരു വിഗ്രഹം കാണുകയുണ്ടായി . അതു കൊണ്ടാണ് ഈ മനോഹരമായ താഴ്വരയിലെ അതി പുരാതനമായ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനും സമീപ പ്രദേശത്തിനും തിരുനെല്ലി എന്ന പേര് വരാൻ കാരണമെന്നത്രേ  പറയപ്പെടുന്നത്‌. ഭഗവാൻ വേദവ്യാസനാൽ രചിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ള പദ്മപുരാണത്തിലും  സഹ്യാദ്രി താഴ്വരയിലുള്ള ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് പരാമർശമുണ്ട് .തിരുനെല്ലി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനു 'അമലക' എന്നും 'സിദ്ധ മന്ദിരം' എന്നുംകൂടി പേരുണ്ട് .

എ .ഡി .767 നും എ.ഡി. 834 നും ഇടയ്ക്കു ഭരിച്ചിരുന്ന ചേര രാജാവ് കുലശേഖരനാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം നിർമ്മിച്ചത് എന്നാണു ചരിത്രകാരന്മാർ പറയുന്നത് .ഈ ക്ഷേത്ര നിർമ്മാണാനന്തരം വിരക്തനായി മാറിയ കുലശേഖര പെരുമാൾ ഒരു സന്യാസി ആയി എന്നാണു ചരിത്രം .ഇദ്ദേഹമാണ് സംസ്കൃതത്തിൽ രചിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ള മുകുന്ദമാല എന്ന കൃതിയുടെ കർത്താവ് .

Sage and Scribe.

The Mahabharata is said to have been written down by Lord Ganesha, to the dictation of Vyasa. At the beginning of the exercise, Ganesha says to Vyasa, ‘Lord, I shall write for you on one condition; that you recite the verses at such a speed that my pen shall never stop.’ To that Vyasa said, ‘So be it, my lord. In that case my condition is that you shall only write down a verse after you have understood its meaning.’
With this understanding they sat down, and every time Vyasa wanted a break from his recital , he would throw in a difficult verse or two for Ganesha to ponder upon, and while the elephant-god thought, the sage rested. Some say that sage and scribe are still at work in some unseen corner in some unknown forest.

കർണ്ണൻ എന്നും സ്വന്തം മൂല്യങ്ങളെ ഉയര്ത്തിപ്പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ട്‌ ജീവിച്ച ആളാണ്‌ . അതാണ്‌ ഞാൻ കർണ്ണനെ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടാനും കാരണം . മഹാഭാരത യുദ്ധ സമയത്ത് ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണൻ കർണ്ണനോട് ദുര്യോധനനെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു സഹോദരങ്ങളോടൊപ്പം ചേരാൻ നിർദ്ദേശിച്ചപ്പോൾ , കൌരവർ പരാജിതരാകും എന്ന് അറിഞ്ഞു കൊണ്ടുതന്നെ , തന്റെ സുഹൃത്തിനെ ചതിക്കുവാൻ തയ്യാറല്ല എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞൊഴിഞ്ഞത് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ വേറിട്ട മാഹാത്മ്യത്തെ വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുന്ന ഒരു സംഭവം ആണ്.
